Body and language as carriers of transculturality in two Sinophone transnational artists

In a global context characterized by growing complexity of the dynamics Chinese transnational mobility, we find need to resort new vocabulary understand localized artistic expressions related such dynamics. this article, focus on two artists, Musk Ming (1979–present) and Tony Cheung (1987–present), who live work across China Europe, reflecting how their life trajectories combine with transculturality expressed in works. Considering body language as privileged sites ethnicity, article suggests that, representation, authors engage process critical deconstruction ‘national culture’ ‘ethnic identity’. Such is achieved disconnecting cultural tokens from ‘ethno-national’ or historical referents, creating instead unlikely unexpected associations elements extracted non-Chinese contexts, using them critique very lineage they are supposed embody. reception artists’ also discusses act defamiliarization provokes viewer contesting both ‘Chineseness’ ‘westernization’ artwork itself.
